Positioned at the eastern entry to the new Sydney Fish Market, SCOOP was conceived as a playful and sculptural gateway presence for a new ice cream and coffee offering. The brief called for a kiosk that could be readily disassembled and removed, while still having the architectural presence appropriate to its prominent location.

Rather than allowing these practical requirements to define its appearance, we developed a simple rectangular kiosk wrapped in an expressive outer skin. Inspired by the simple joy of eating ice cream, its surface appears almost as though shaped by a giant scoop, with soft concave indentations creating an organic and tactile form.

A series of white fibreglass panels is framed by finely linished stainless-steel fins, bringing precision and definition to the sculptural geometry. Concealed linear lighting integrated within the fins traces the form after dark, transforming the kiosk into a softly glowing beacon at the market entrance.

Throughout the day, the white surface responds to changing natural light, shifting subtly between white and pale grey as light and shadow move across its curves. Playful yet restrained, SCOOP transforms a pragmatic, demountable structure into a distinctive architectural object — approachable in scale, memorable in character and expressive of the sense of delight at the heart of the brand.
