Located in the heart of Chatswood, Makoto Sushi Bar is the client’s second outlet and explores a contemporary interpretation of traditional Japanese dining. Seating sixty patrons around a stainless-steel sushi conveyor, the layout places the preparation and presentation of food at the centre of the experience.

Architectural forms peel and separate to reveal recessed zones housing service functions, maintaining clarity while supporting operational flow. A floating ceiling plane rises toward the shopfront, creating a sense of openness and drawing customers into the space. Bespoke lighting pendants add warmth and focus, counterbalancing the precision of the stainless-steel elements below.

Japanese references are abstracted rather than literal, allowing the interior to feel modern, calm and refined. The restrained palette and controlled detailing ensure the theatrics of the sushi train and the craftsmanship of the food remain the primary focus.
