Musumeci Seafoods has traded at the Sydney Fish Markets for over forty years, building a reputation grounded in quality, consistency and a hands-on approach to seafood retail. The relocation to the New Sydney Fish Market presented an opportunity to establish a contemporary retail environment that respected this legacy while giving the brand a clearer and more confident spatial identity.

The design is informed by the brand’s core values of honesty and approachability, expressed through openness, visibility and clarity of layout. At the centre of the tenancy sits a distinctive “blue box” housing temperature-controlled storage and preparation areas. Clad in hand-made mottled blue tiles, the volume references heritage craft while asserting a strong presence within the internal market street.

Shopfront-style windows line the internal street, creating multiple points of engagement and reinforcing transparency between preparation and sale. The primary seafood display counters anchor the three main frontages and form the key customer destination. Clad in a tumbled stone mosaic with a gently curved profile, the counters reference a weathered shoreline edge. Blackened steel trims and a backlit ceiling plane above sharpen the presentation, placing the product clearly at the centre of the experience.
